"for it has grown so custom, that it has become habit, to cast their ancilliary anchors."

"for it has grown so custom, that it has become habit, to cast their ancilliary anchors."

"for it has grown so custom, that it has become habit, to cast their ancilliary anchors."

Last night I dreampt these words. On a normal day, when I'm conscious these little quips come to me, and if I'm quick enough to write them down, I can capture them for future use. Like catching fire flies to use at night. I'm writing this now at 2:40pm, I woke up roughly 15 minutes ago, and I first fell asleep about 14 hours ago. With a few wake-ups in between.

"for it has grown so custom, that it has become habit, to cast their ancilliary anchors."

What the fuck does that mean? I asked myself in the dream, "are the titles of books I see in a dream, actual titles of books in real life?" That was an awkward question, because of the whole, conscious of being inconscious bit. None the less, I told myself in the dream, to remember this quote, said by, myself: "for it has grown so custom, that it has become habit, to cast their ancilliary anchors."

Firstly, I need to figure out what the fuck 'ancillary' means. So I go online, google that up, and it produces 4 different definitions:

1. Of secondary importance
2. Auxiliary; helping

1. Something, that is subordinate to something else
2. A servant

"for it has grown so custom, that it has become habit, to cast their ancilliary anchors."

I think I've properly understood every other word. But 'ancillary', even now that I'm awake, seems to be the most imperative to understand.

"for it has grown so custom" - stands for something that people get used to, something that in itself could be natural or unnatural. But to think, you have to grow accustom to something implies that it is not something orindarily inherent within you, otherwise, it would take no getting used to. Maybe thats wrong, it swings either way, for the sake of discourse, it means, "you've been getting so used to it"

"that it has become habit" - implies that this thing which I have been getting used to, was not natural to begin with. It was something that has BECOME a habit, and was not so prior to whenever this new thing came to manifest itself.

to cast their ancilliary anchors.
to cast their ancilliary anchors.
to cast their ancilliary anchors.

I have become used to casting out my secondary anchors? This has two meanings, either, that I have a Primary anchor, which I have been neglecting, and posing this new fake, subordinate anchor in its place. Like, shifting my faith from one thing to another, or my dependence from one thing to another.

This first possibility, I understand. People are not content with how the first anchor works, maybe because its a lesser anchor in a sense that it doesn't do its job well enough. Like people beleiving in God, but they don't think He's a good enough answer for the 'storms of life', he's not a good enough anchor. So they create their own subordinate anchors.

I don't think that one applies to me.

to cast their ancilliary anchors. It could also mean that that which this anchor is subordinate to, is not even an anchor at all. It means that our primary function is not to use the anchor. That we should take the 'storms of life' head on without the assistance of something holding us down, literally. We should take the chance of capsizing, or beaching on jagged rocks, or being engulfed by sea monsters. Maybe life is too hard for people that they would rather cast their anchors to get away from it, to find some solace.

It has grown custom for people to do this. To cast their anchors when shit hits the fan. To settle for something because they don't want to fight for more. But think, if we can depend on everyone to drop anchor, then those of us who are brave enough, strong enough, to go on, will reach waters that no other ship has ever made ripples in.

Fuck the anchors, sail on.
